This is a composition of several drawings that I made of the people around us on a terrace while my husband was reading the newspapers when we visited Paris.
This oil painting was inspired by my visit to the Alex Katz exhibition at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid. It represents a scene of people on a terrace chatting over a drink.
You will see that the composition is motivated by Katz. You will also see the simplification of facial features and the use of flat colors also influenced by Katz. It is a very cheerful painting, with a lot of color, movement and atmosphere. With each new work I rediscover the joy of beauty and creation. My curiosity for life has led me, in art, to experiment with many methods of plastic expression. But whether I’m working in oil, sculpture or printmaking, it’s all a way of sharing my zest for life, of capturing the moment.
