This oil painting was inspired by my visit to the Alex Katz exhibition at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid. It depicts a scene of 9 spectators at Wimbledon. The colours of Wimbledon, violet and emerald green can be seen in the tie of one of the figures and in the hat bands of the hats. You will see that the composition is motivated by Katz. You will also see the simplification of facial features and the use of flat colours also influenced by Katz. It is a very cheerful painting with a lot of colour, movement and atmosphere. With each new oeuvre I rediscover the joy of beauty and creation. My curiosity about life has led me, in art, to experiment with many methods of plastic expression. But whether I’m working in oil, sculpture or print, it’s all a way of sharing my zest for life, of capturing the instant.
